Sardenia is even more beautiful that I remembered, picturesque bays with crystal blue waters – actually emerald colour, as we are sailing in the Costa Smeralda! – and idyllic landscapes. 
Then something unexpected happened. While in Olbia port, because of need of repairs to our Tohatsu outboard and vintage Ray Marine auto-pilot, moored in the Circolo Nautico right in the middle of the town harbour …. we found ourselves in the middle of nothing less than the Aquabike World Championship! Basically surrounded by jetski riders, the ultimate nightmare of any sailor and sea lover! But wait, have you ever watched a proper performance of these guys and girls? (There are also several women racing too)
Personally I was flabbergasted when I started watching the first practicing sessions on Friday morning. The top speed of these machines is unbelievable, 150 Km per hour – on water! And those performing acrobatics can do several consecutive 360 degrees circles in the air making the surface of the water appear as if made of rubber!
